Siblings, Jem and Scout, meet Charles Baker Harris (A.K.A Dill) in his Aunt Rachel's cabbage patch while playing in their tree house. Throughout the summer they became good friends with Dill and Miss Maudie. The school year started and Dill went back to his hometown. One snowy night Miss Maudie's house caught on fire. Neighbors were going in and rescuing her valuables. Atticus, Jem and Scout's father, rescued Miss Maudie's rocking chair because it was very valuable to her. This shows how caring and kind Atticus is about others rather than himself. After the school year ended and Dill returned to find out that Atticus is the main lawyer for Tom Robinson, who is innocent and wrongfully tried for assault and rape of Mayella Ewell. Bob Ewell, Mayella's father, tells the whole town of Maycomb that Tom did it. Two trials were held and Tom was sent to jail after the second. During his stay at the jail, he decided to run away, the guards told Tom to stop running and when he didn't they shot him, 17 times in the chest (talk about overkill). Bob Ewell threatened because Atticus said that town was innocent, after Bob threatened him, he walked away not affected by what had happened. That October the school that Jem and Scout go to held a pageant and Scout was a ham. Jem escorted Scout to the pageant, on their way Cecil Jacobs, a student in Scout's class scared them. The three kids walked into the pageant together. The pageant ended and Jem and Scout headed home. Scout lost her dress and shoes at the school, so she walked home in her ham costume. Jem heard a noise but they kept going until the noise started to get closer and faster. The kids ran and were not fast enough and were soon attacked, they didn't know who attacked them until the got home. Boo Radley saved the kids and killed Bob Ewell the children's attacker. | Relevance of TKAMHow can you benefit from reading To Kill a Mockingbird?
This is a very good book. It has a great plot line and it takes you on a great adventure into the lives of Jem, Scout and Dill. Throughout the book you will learn how people were racist back then. This book can mean many things, the best part about reading this book is the love Boo Radley has for Jem and Scout without even coming face to face with them. This love that Boo has for the kids is so strong and powerful, Boo would give anything and do anything for Jem and Scout. By reading this book you will see how some people are good and even more are cold-hearted and mean. Heck Tate, the sheriff of Maycomb knew how Bob Ewell died the night of the attack and lied about it to keep Boo from going from being hated in the community to being loved for the murder of Bob. Heck said that Bob died by falling on a kitchen knife, but truly Boo stabbed Bob to protect Jem and Scout. |
